Come to the Table - Part 2 by Phil Last time we looked at a dramatic interpretation of the Lord's Supper we shared recently at our church. You may remember that the reading ended, "Together, their voices rose softly in a traditional Passover hymn, filling the small room with warmth and strength. As their song drifted on the night air, Jesus looked around the room at his companions. No longer just followers, now friends. As he studied each face, his lips curved into a smile of enduring love." So what, you may ask, was the traditional Passover hymn they sang? During a traditional Passover Seder, the family and participants would sing or recite Psalms 113 through 118, known as the "Hallel," the Hebrew word for "praise." They were divided into two sections, the first (Psalms 113-114) were recited early in the evening during the retelling of the Exodus story. The second (Psalms 115-118) were shared after the meal and accompanying the fourth cup of wine. I decided to continue our "reenactment" of the Lord's Supper by putting some verses from Psalm 118 to music for us to sing at the conclusion of the reading. I'll share that here as well and once again, you are free to use this in your own worship services.
