Good afternoon, friends! It appears that summer is finally over and and autumn is upon us. This is always our favorite time of year, but we fear it might be a little brief this time. Anyway, we’ll enjoy every moment of the cooler, weather and beautiful colors of fall. In Phil‘s ongoing vision saga, we had a follow up visit with his doctor and the retinal specialist this morning. In case you’re late to the party, Phil had cataract surgery on September 15 that did not go as planned. He had a second surgery last Thursday to repair the damage, where they sucked all the goo out of his eye and replaced it with an air bubble. When the blood was removed, they did find a small tear, which they repaired at the same time. As of this morning, his eye had replaced about 80% of the air with eye juice. When it is 100% filled, he should be able to see again. Hooray! The doctor did say there is some scar tissue that after everything is healed in three or four months, they will go back and zap with a laser. Right now he still can’t see much - there is quite a bit of inflammation, he has a black-eye, and his eyeball is very bloodshot, but we are optimistic this detour will soon be finished and behind us. Thanks so much for all of your prayers! In other news, we did get away for a vacation to California to celebrate our 36th wedding anniversary on October 20. We visited Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia National Parks. It was an interesting trip to say the least, between scheduled underbrush burns and snow that closed parts of the parks, and the fact that we both ended up getting sick with colds. Never fear, we had enough misadventure that Phil got material for this whole month’s devotions! You’re gonna love ‘em. That’s about it for now. Be safe and we’ll see you next week! That's Appreciation? Previously on Adventures of the Ark... Back in 1 Samuel the Israelites messed up and lost the Ark of the Covenant that got passed around the Philistine cities like an ugly sweater at a Christmas gift exchange. We pick up the story as the Ark is ready to make it's way back home to Israel... After seven months of plague and suffering, the Philistines are ready to send the Ark back where it came from. They decide it would be best to include a little gift to say, "Sorry we...
Doggone Dagon by Phil Remember the old commercial where none of the kids want to eat the cereal so they finally say, "Give it to Mikey, he'll eat anything!"? The same thing happened with the Ark of the Covenant back in Samuel's day. This was long before Indiana Jones rescued it from the Nazis. (Indy was fiction, but the real story is even better!) Let's set the scene: Back in 1 Samuel chapter 4, the Israelites take on the Philistines and lose big time. The elders are reviewing the game tape...
Howdy! Eye update. Thanks for all the prayers and comments about my recent vision dilemma. I saw the Retina specialist and my surgeon last Thursday and here is the latest. Things are improving, but still lots of junk inside the eye. (I think it must take after my garage) We have surgery scheduled for the 29th. They are concerned there is a tear in my retina in the bottom of my eye, but there is too much blood pooled to tell. Three options on 29th: 1. Clearing out on it’s own/no tear - cancel...
