WELCOME TO SUMMER! We pray you had a wonderful celebration of our nation's 250th birthday and still have all your fingers (or at least the same number you had last week!). We mentioned earlier in the year that we would be keeping a light touring schedule this summer because of upcoming family events, but that doesn't mean we haven't been busy! Here's a snapshot of the happenings around here. Pam's mom has moved into a senior community - twice! The facility is beautiful and the waiting list so long, the only way to get into a one bedroom apartment is to first move into a studio apartment and then move again when a one bedroom opens up. She moved the first time in the spring and moved into her official residence a few weeks ago. Pam and her sisters have been taking care of all the prep work to get her mom's house ready to sell, and that list has been loooooong. All the structural repairs are finished, the estate sale is this week, and the house will go on the market soon after. Phil's mom is going to move into the same senior community next month. Same situation - studio apartment for now until a one bedroom open up. Fortunately, her house is much newer and in excellent condition, so we won't have to do any of the structural work. Depending on the availability and timing, this could be the year of four moves! (Praise God one of them is not ours!!!) The church where Phil is minister of music is EXPLODING! Tons of visitors each week, lots of baptisms and new members. It's exciting to see God obviously at work! Pastor Jason and Phil make a great team to preach and sing the Word each week. Phil has also started a Super Seniors monthly meeting that is growing by leaps and bounds, and is working with several of the other churches in town to impact the entire community. Like most things in ministry, his part-time job has full-time hours, but he is thrilled to see God using his gifts to bless a whole new group of people. Also on the Phil front, he is going to have an upcoming cataract surgery on his eye. He'll find out a date after his appointment on the 20th of this month. Hopefully, Pam will be less nervous when he drives once he can see the street signs again! Last, but certainly not least, we are loving this grandparent thing! Little Alec is a hoot, and we look forward to every minute we get to spend with him. Phil is making him some wooden toys so he has little surprises when he comes to Grammy and Papa's house! What a blessing! Thanks for your continued prayer and support as we take care of our families in this season. We'll be back on the road this fall so hopefully we'll get to see you in person! Next to who? by Phil Last time we talked about taking the first step to get involved at church. Now, let's take it a step further... When I study the Bible, I often look for the obscure details, things that are mentioned in passing and commonly skimmed over. The third chapter of Nehemiah is just the opposite. The phrase “next to him” or something similar occurs over 25 times in that chapter! Seems like ole Nehi might have been trying to tell us something. The chapter is a virtual walk around...
Spectate or Participate? by Phil Part of my job as VP of our Woodworkers’ Guild is finding programs for our monthly meetings. A while back, one of our members mentioned he was building a beautiful workbench. I suggested he take photos along the way and share his process with us once it was finished. Last week, he invited me over to his shop to show me his latest progress. It is truly impressive! While I was there, he mentioned that I was the only person in the Guild he really knew; no one...
Jesus in Aisle Seven by Phil Hello, my name is Phil, and I am an extrovert. (Sounds like I’m at an Extroverts Anonymous meeting, but extroverts are anything but anonymous!) I don’t know a stranger—just friends I haven’t met yet. I can’t even go to Walmart without striking up at least five conversations with people I don't know. Why do I do this? Partly because I’m wired this way, but mostly to see the smiles I leave behind. It’s so much fun to see someone’s face light up when I compliment...
