The Rest of the Story...

The Rest of the Story... by Phil

Alright, it's confession time. Have you ever skipped to the last page of a book to see how the story will end? There is a certain comfort in knowing that everything will work out OK and the hero will ride off into the sunset. (For the girls, this would include his true love by his side; for the guys, it would involve a long trail of enemies who died horrific, painful and dramatic deaths.) What makes the story interesting is the journey to get to the end, and all the conflicts along the way.

In John 11, Jesus hears his buddy Lazarus is sick. Instead of immediately rushing to his sickbed, Jesus responds, "This sickness will not end in death." Jesus's disciples took this to mean that Lazarus would get better, but that's not what Jesus said. He said the sickness would not END in death. He never said that Lazarus wouldn't die, just that's not where the story would end. If Lazarus hadn't died, he would have probably been a forgotten footnote in our Bibles, Mary and Martha's inconsequential brother. Instead, Lazarus's story became one of Jesus's most notable miracles, the last one mentioned by John, and the final straw for the Pharisees leading them to plot Jesus' death.

The crucifixion of Jesus also looked like the end of his life, the solution to the Pharisee's problems, and victory for the evil one. But that was not the END of the story. Just as the resurrection of Lazarus foreshadowed, the story of Jesus did not end in death. His death lead to life, victory over sin and reconciliation between hopeless humans and a gracious God. And the best part? The story isn't finished yet! Go ahead, flip to the last page of your Bible. You'll find so much more than just a happy ending!

I don't know where you are in your story right now, but I do know this, if you are a follower of Jesus, your story won't end in death. Not that you won't die along the way, but that's not the END. It's just a plot twist that will lead to a wonderful conclusion where you will ride off with your hero into a beautiful future. (Don't worry guys, read the rest of Revelation. There will be a long trail of carnage left behind!)

Time to turn the page, this is getting good...

Welcome to May! So much has been happening around Morganville, let's jump right to it! Phil's mom is home from the hospital and rehab and making slow and steady progress. For those of you just tuning in, back in March a neighborhood dog knocked her down in the street. No broken bones but she was pretty banged up. She had to get home and healed up in time for her first great-grandbaby... Which brings us to our oldest daughter and son-in-law who are expecting their first child late this month....

Donkey Day by Phil Today I'd like to pay homage to the humble donkey, whose unfortunate ancient name has caused much derision and more than a few chuckles. In fact, this poor animal was replaced by a lamb in modern renditions of the classic Christmas song "What Child is This?" If you were ever teased because of your name, you'll empathize with our friend, the donkey. The donkey was domesticated in Africa between 5,000 and 7,000 years ago. They were probably first used as pack animals in Nubia...

Mid-Month Check in Wow, life has been busy around the Morgan household! Not only with Holy week (which is always packed), but on several fronts. Here are the highlights plus an exciting new opportunity! On March 12th, Phil's mom was walking down to get her mail when a neighborhood dog excitedly knocked her down in the road. Fortunately no broken bones, but she hit her head, shoulder, side and hip. She was very bruised, swollen and skinned up. She was in the hospital for just over a week, then...
