Oh, Baby! by Phil It may be hard to believe, but since I’ve become a grandpa, there are more than a few photos of my handsome grandson on my phone. For years, people have shown me pictures of their kids and grandkids, and I’m always quick to compliment. But let’s be honest, some of those youngun’s ain’t gonna win no beauty contests, ya know what I mean? That may be where the phrase, “a face only a mother could love” was born. In that way, Moms are a lot like God. “The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” - 1 Samuel 16:7. Even the kindest, sweetest mother can instantly turn into “mama bear” when one of her kids is injured or offended. The offense may not be directed at her, but it hurts her just the same. God is like that, too. Sometimes we forget that every person we meet is one of God's children. How we treat them directly reflects on our relationship with Him. As we read in Matthew 25:40, "as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me." I heard someone say, "Don't mistreat one of my kids and expect to have a good relationship with me." We can all relate to that statement. Let's keep that in mind in our daily interactions with God's kids. When we show love to them (even the difficult ones!) we are showing that love to God. Mowing in the Dark by Phil It has been HOT in Kansas City. Normally, heat like this means the grass goes dormant so I don't have to mow as often. Unfortunately, the weeds don’t seem to mind the high temperatures at all—they just keep flourishing. Most mornings, by the time the dew has evaporated, it’s already pushing 100°. The EYES have it! by Phil Yesterday afternoon I had an appointment to have my left eye evaluated for cataract surgery. I know from past experience that the doctor always dilates my eyes for exams and it takes forever for the effect to wear off, so I crammed as much into my morning as possible.
